3PRCL partners and other cocoa and forest stakeholders, supported by P4F, officially launched the Juabeso-Bia Hotspot Intervention Area (HIA) at Boinzan in Juabeso district, Western Region of Ghana. Juabeso-Bia has been designated as one of the Hotspot Intervention Areas for the Ghana Cocoa Forest REDD+ Programme (GCFRP), and covers an area of 243,561 Ha.
The launch event marked the beginning of community leadership in establishing a Landscape Governance structure & system with oversight of land use management, tenure rights, forest protection, and improved productivity and livelihoods.
The Good Forest Stewardship Cup' football league was launched after the main event, to create awareness for forest governance amongst the local communities surrounding the Krokosua forest reserve. There was also an exciting football match between the two largest forest communities (Boinzan and Asempanye). Players wore jerseys branded with the names of cocoa/forest stakeholders, to symbolize the "Teamwork approach" between cocoa-forest communities, public and private sector to address deforestation.
